Study Abroad

The WGSS department encourages students to study abroad. students should consult the Emory College Study Abroad office for information on programs, requirements, and application procedures.

WGS majors may apply no more than 3 study abroad or transient study courses (or a maximum of 9 credit hours) toward fulfillment of their elective course requirements. WGS minors may apply no more than 1 study abroad or transient study course (or a maximum of 4 credit hours) toward fulfillment of their elective course requirements.

No study abroad or transient study course can be used to fulfill the core requirements of the major or minor (WGS 100, 205, 302, 490, and the History of Feminist Thought and Activism course).

DUS approval is required for all study abroad and transient study major/minor credit. Students should request and gain DUS approval at least one semester prior to their study abroad or transient study coursework, if at all possible. For WGS majors seeking study abroad credit, DUS pre-approval should be part of the Emory College Study Abroad application process and the academic course plan (which the DUS, as the student’s major academic advisor, is required to sign). Students seeking last-minute approval for changes in their Study Abroad coursework are not guaranteed an immediate response, especially in the summer months. A response time of at least a week is to be expected.
