Samantha WrisleyVisiting Assistant Professor - WGSS

Samantha Pinson Wrisley (she/they) is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Emory University and a Fellow at the Institute for Research on Male Supremacism.

Informed by a background in feminist, queer, affect, and American studies, Dr. Wrisley uses media studies techniques and methods to analyze social movements, including hate movements (like incel and TERFs), as well as the gendered/sexual politics of advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Wrisley is working on a book titled The Sexual Politics of Hate: Affect, Anti-Feminism, Algorithms, and AI, which braids these two strands of her work together to analyze the degree to which this divisive moment in gender politics is inflamed by technology (e.g., dating sites, internet pornography, men's movement forums).

You can read some of her published work in the journals Capacious: Journal for Emerging Affect Inquiryand Feminist Theory.
