How has being a WGSS graduate from Emory shaped your life and career?
The WGSS Department at Emory introduced me to the feminist perspective that I plan to bring with me throughout my life and future career as a physician. While at Emory, I learned different applications of feminist theory, saw various perspectives through the interdisciplinary course offerings, and realized that I wanted to use my WGSS background to take intersectional treatment plans to the under-resourced communities around us. The WGSS Department at Emory challenged me to embrace difficult conversations, recognize the systems present in our society and how we operate within them, and always seek the missing perspective in our search for solutions. Since graduation, I have completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medicine program at Fordham University, worked as an EMT, and began teaching a virtual English class for Latinx women. I am now in the process of applying to medical schools with the hopes of starting my medical education in the 2021-2022 academic year.
